About Starknet (STRK)
Starknet (STRK) is a permissionless decentralized Validity Rollup (zk-rollup) on Ethereum, developed by StarkWare, a company founded by Eli Ben-Sasson, Alessandro Chiesa, Michael Riabzev, and Uri Kolodny — the inventors of STARK proofs (the underlying cryptography). Starknet uses Cairo, a Turing-complete language designed specifically for STARK proofs, to express smart contracts. STRK launched via airdrop in February 2024, distributing tokens to Starknet users, Ethereum stakers, and other contributors to the ecosystem.
Starknet Technology
Starknet uses STARK proofs (Scalable Transparent Arguments of Knowledge) which are quantum-resistant and transparent (no trusted setup required). This contrasts with SNARK-based rollups like zkSync. Cairo is a custom programming language optimized for STARK provability, requiring developers to learn new syntax compared to Solidity. The Starknet stack includes an account abstraction model where every account is a smart contract, supporting features like multisig and social recovery natively. The Volition mechanism lets users choose between L1 data availability (full security) or off-chain (cheaper, weaker security).
What Moves the STRK Price
STRK has had volatile trading since launch, partly due to large initial unlocks. Daily spot volume on Binance, OKX, and Bybit typically ranges from $50-150 million. Key drivers include Starknet TVL growth, Cairo developer adoption, fee structure changes (Starknet has experimented with using STRK for gas), and broader zk-rollup narrative momentum.

+
In most countries, gains from selling cryptocurrencies like Starknet (STRK) are subject to capital gains tax. Reporting requirements vary by country — in the US, report on Schedule D; in the UK, use the Capital Gains Tax form. Always consult a tax professional for your specific situation.
What factors affect the Starknet price?
+
The Starknet (STRK) price is influenced by: market supply and demand, regulatory news in the US and Asia, correlation with Bitcoin, institutional adoption, protocol upgrades, and overall crypto market sentiment.
What is the difference between STARK and SNARK proofs?
+
STARKs are transparent (no trusted setup) and quantum-resistant, while SNARKs typically require a trusted setup ceremony and rely on cryptographic assumptions vulnerable to quantum computers. STARKs are larger in proof size but offer stronger security guarantees. Starknet uses STARKs; zkSync, Polygon zkEVM, and others use SNARKs.
Why does Starknet use Cairo instead of Solidity?
+
Cairo is purpose-built to be efficiently provable in STARK proofs, allowing Starknet to achieve higher throughput than chains using Solidity-based zk-EVMs. The tradeoff is that Cairo developers must learn a new language, but Cairo offers better performance and more idiomatic STARK code than mapping Solidity to a zk-friendly form.
What is account abstraction on Starknet?
+
Starknet has native account abstraction — every account is a smart contract that can implement custom validation logic. This enables features like multisig accounts, social recovery, session keys, and gasless transactions out of the box, without requiring special EIPs like Ethereum L1 needs to implement similar features.
