About Hedera (HBAR)

Hedera (HBAR) launched its mainnet in September 2019. Unlike most blockchains, Hedera is governed by the Hedera Council — a group of major global enterprises including Google, IBM, Boeing, Deutsche Telekom, LG, Standard Bank, and others, each holding a council seat for a fixed term. Founders Leemon Baird and Mance Harmon developed the underlying Hashgraph algorithm, which is patented by Hedera. HBAR is the native token used for transaction fees, smart contracts, and securing the network through Proof-of-Stake.

Hedera Technology

Hedera uses the Hashgraph consensus algorithm rather than a traditional blockchain. Hashgraph uses a "gossip-about-gossip" protocol where nodes exchange information about what they've heard from other nodes, building a directed acyclic graph (DAG) of events. This achieves asynchronous Byzantine Fault Tolerance with high throughput (theoretically 10,000+ TPS) and very low fees ($0.0001 per transaction). Hedera supports EVM-compatible smart contracts via the Hedera Smart Contract Service.

What Moves the HBAR Price

HBAR trades with moderate correlation to BTC but exhibits unique fundamentals tied to enterprise adoption announcements. Daily spot volume on Binance, OKX, and HTX typically ranges from $80-200 million. Key drivers include Hedera Council member announcements, enterprise pilot programs, government and CBDC research using Hedera, and tokenization initiatives.

FAQ

What is the Hedera price today?

The current Hedera (HBAR) price is shown above in real time. It is sourced directly from major exchanges and refreshed continuously throughout the day.

How often is the HBAR price updated?

The HBAR/USDT price on this page is streamed live from our market-data engine and updates every second while exchanges are open (24/7 for crypto).

Where can I buy Hedera?

Hedera (HBAR) is available on major exchanges including Binance, Coinbase, Kraken and Bybit. Always do your own research and only use regulated platforms.

How is Hashgraph different from blockchain?

Blockchains organize transactions into linear blocks; Hashgraph organizes them into a directed acyclic graph (DAG). Hashgraph nodes "gossip" about what events they've heard, creating a verifiable record without needing miners or full consensus on each block. The result is high throughput, low fees, and fair ordering by timestamp.

Who runs Hedera nodes?

Hedera nodes are operated by the Hedera Council members — a group of large global enterprises including Google, IBM, Boeing, LG, Deutsche Telekom, Standard Bank, and others. Each council member operates a node, providing enterprise-grade infrastructure and governance accountability that is unusual in crypto.

Is Hedera decentralized?

Hedera is more centralized than fully permissionless chains like Ethereum or Bitcoin because nodes are operated by approved council members. However, this provides accountability, predictability, and enterprise reliability. Hedera plans to gradually open node participation to a broader set of operators over time.
