About THORChain (RUNE)

THORChain (RUNE) is a decentralized cross-chain liquidity protocol launched on its public mainnet in April 2021 by an anonymous team operating under "THORChain Devs." THORChain enables permissionless swaps between native assets (Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dogecoin, Cosmos ATOM, and many others) without using wrapped tokens or trusted bridges. RUNE is the network's native settlement asset; every liquidity pool pairs an asset with RUNE, and RUNE is required as bond collateral for nodes.

THORChain Technology

THORChain is built on Cosmos SDK with Tendermint consensus and uses Threshold Signature Scheme (TSS) cryptography. Validator nodes jointly control vault keys for each supported chain, signing cross-chain transactions only when a supermajority agree. The continuous liquidity pool (CLP) model uses x*y=k AMM math for swaps, with RUNE as the common settlement asset. Nodes must bond at least twice the value of vault assets to discourage collusion. THORChain has been exploited multiple times in 2021 but has rebuilt and continues to operate.

What Moves the RUNE Price

RUNE has high correlation to BTC and DeFi tokens. Daily spot volume on Binance, OKX, and Bybit typically ranges from $50-150 million. Key drivers include THORChain swap volume (the protocol regularly processes hundreds of millions in cross-chain swaps), supported chain expansion, lending market launches, and BTC ecosystem growth.

FAQ

What is the THORChain price today?

The current THORChain (RUNE) price is shown above in real time. It is sourced directly from major exchanges and refreshed continuously throughout the day.

How often is the RUNE price updated?

Where can I buy THORChain?

THORChain (RUNE) is available on major exchanges including Binance, Coinbase, Kraken and Bybit. Always do your own research and only use regulated platforms.

How does THORChain swap native Bitcoin?

THORChain validator nodes jointly control vault addresses on Bitcoin and other chains using threshold signatures. When you swap, your BTC is sent to the vault, the protocol calculates your output via the AMM math, and an outbound transaction is signed and sent to your address on the destination chain. No wrapped tokens are involved.

Why is RUNE in every pool?

RUNE acts as the universal settlement asset. Instead of needing direct pools for every possible pair (BTC/ETH, BTC/LTC, ETH/DOGE, etc.), THORChain only needs each asset paired with RUNE. Swaps between two non-RUNE assets actually go through RUNE in two atomic steps. This dramatically simplifies the liquidity graph.

Is THORChain safe?

THORChain was exploited multiple times during 2021 and lost millions in user funds. The protocol has since rebuilt with improved security including bond requirements, vault rotation, and more rigorous code audits. As with any DeFi protocol, smart contract risk and validator collusion risk remain factors to consider.
