About TRON (TRX)

TRON (TRX) was founded in 2017 by Justin Sun, who launched the project initially as an Ethereum-based ERC-20 token before migrating to its own mainnet in June 2018. The TRON Foundation, headquartered in Singapore, oversees development. TRON acquired BitTorrent in 2018 and later launched USDD, a stablecoin. TRON has become the dominant blockchain for stablecoin transfers, particularly for Tether (USDT), which has more total supply on TRON than on any other chain. The TRX token has no maximum supply.

TRON Technology

TRON uses Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) consensus with 27 "Super Representatives" elected by TRX holders to produce blocks. Block times are three seconds with sub-cent fees. The TRON Virtual Machine (TVM) is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, allowing developers to deploy Solidity smart contracts. TRX is used to pay for transaction fees (which can also be paid via energy/bandwidth obtained by freezing TRX). The "TRC-20" standard is used for tokens like USDT-TRON.

What Moves the TRX Price

TRX trades with moderate correlation to BTC and tends to outperform during periods of high stablecoin transfer activity, particularly in emerging markets. Daily spot volume on Binance, OKX, and HTX typically ranges from $200-500 million. Key drivers include USDT-TRON circulating supply (a leading indicator of stablecoin transfer demand), Justin Sun's public statements and acquisitions, and broader stablecoin adoption in Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Where can I buy TRON?

TRON (TRX) is available on major exchanges including Binance, Coinbase, Kraken and Bybit. Always do your own research and only use regulated platforms.

Why is so much USDT on TRON?

TRON's low fees (often free for transfers when you have energy from staking TRX) and fast finality make it the preferred chain for retail USDT transfers globally, especially in regions where users need to send small amounts cheaply. USDT supply on TRON often exceeds USDT on Ethereum.

Is TRON decentralized?

TRON has 27 Super Representatives elected by stake, which is more centralized than Bitcoin or Ethereum but typical of DPoS chains. Critics point to high concentration of stake and Justin Sun's prominent role. Supporters argue that elected validators provide efficiency suitable for stablecoin payments.
