About Aave (AAVE)
Aave (AAVE) is one of the largest decentralized lending protocols by total value locked. Originally launched as "ETHLend" in 2017 by Stani Kulechov, it rebranded to Aave (Finnish for "ghost") in late 2018 and pioneered key DeFi innovations including flash loans and rate-switching. AAVE is the governance token of the Aave protocol and is also used as a backstop for the Safety Module (where staked AAVE can be slashed to cover protocol shortfall events). Aave has launched a stablecoin called GHO and a social network called Lens Protocol from the same founding team.
Aave Technology
Aave V3 supports multi-chain deployment, isolation mode (limiting risk for new collateral types), efficiency mode (higher loan-to-value for correlated assets), and supply/borrow caps for risk management. The protocol supports overcollateralized lending across many assets including ETH, stETH, WBTC, USDC, USDT, DAI, and dozens more. Flash loans (introduced by Aave) let users borrow any amount without collateral as long as the loan is repaid in the same atomic transaction. Aave V4, in development, introduces a new architecture with shared liquidity layers across chains.
What Moves the AAVE Price
AAVE is one of the most liquid DeFi tokens with deep markets on Binance, Coinbase, and OKX. Daily spot volume typically ranges from $100-300 million. Key drivers include total value locked changes, GHO stablecoin adoption, governance proposals (including the Aavenomics buyback program), and broader DeFi market trends. AAVE often outperforms in periods of high DeFi yield.
